Antarctic Roadmap Challenges (ARC)

Research in the Antarctic requires substantial and sustained investments by governments to meet the challenges of conducting science in one of the most remote and extreme environments on Earth. The ‘enabling’ of the Antarctic science roadmap is intended to remind and inform those that fund research and provide science support about what will be needed in order to deliver Antarctic science in the coming years.

Antarctic Facilities Information

The COMNAP National Antarctic Programs operate a range of facilities in the Antarctic Treaty area in support of their scientific programs. There are several opportunities for public access to information on the Antarctic facilities operated by those 31 COMNAP Member National Antarctic Programs.

Handbooks, Manuals & Operation Guidelines

COMNAP publishes or supports the production and distribution of a number of manuals and handbooks that provide National Antarctic Programs and others with guidance in specialist fields of activity. A number of guidelines are developed by COMNAP's Expert Groups and Networks with the aim of assisting National Programs implementing common procedures and practices to enhance operational effectiveness and safety. Whenever appropriate, these guidelines are forwarded to the Antarctic Treaty bodies, which may endorse them and officially recommend that all nations signatories to the Antarctic Treaty follow these guidelines. Some of these publications may be produced by, or in conjunction with, other Antarctic or International organisations.

Symposiums & Workshops Reports

In support of our aim to share best practice in managing support to science, COMNAP regularly convenes workshops on topical issues. Many of these workshops result in the development of 'reference' documents such as voluntary guidelines, manuals or handbooks. Some workshops produce self-contained reports or proceedings, available here.

A Story of Antarctic Co-operation: 25 Years of the Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of COMNAP, COMNAP published in December 2013 "A Story of Antarctic Co-operation: 25 Years of the Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs" by Gillian Wratt, ISBN 978-0-473-24776-8. You can find a PDF version of the book, ISBN 978-0-473-24777-5, here.
